About the Artist
Gabriel Thompson studied at the Art Academy in Munich under Karl Raupp, Nicholaus Gysis and Ludwig con Lofftz. A commission from the King of Bavaria took him to Baden in the Black Forest and the Swiss and Italian Alps. Above all, the South Tyrolean school of painting with it's early impressionist conception of landscape shaped his later work. A nervous brushstroke became Thompson's trademark.
Thompson created portraits, genre and Landscape paintings and illustrations.
The National Museum of Wales holds several of his works.
