About the Artist
Terry Shelbourne (1930-2020) was a locally renowned and respected artist and cartoonist, especially within his home town of Grantham. Shelbourne studied at the St. Anne's School, and later at the Boys Central. It was here that he decided to attend the Nottingham College of Arts and Crafts.
After his studies, Shelbourne began his career as a cartoonist for the magazine Mag-o-Marc for BMARC (British Marco Ltd.). After serving the RAF, he returned to Grantham and started working with John Coxworth on Watergate, painting humorous pub signs. In the late 1980’s, the artist began his segment in the Grantham Journal creating cartoons of local people for well over 30 years. An example of his work can be seen at the Lincolnshire County Council Grantham Collection
